Class Descriptions

Classes are mastery-based. Students will be given assignments and paired up according to ability level and for maximum learning potential.

Tuesdays

ACTING 1, 4:30-5:30 (1 hour, grades 5-7)

For avid, dedicated performers.  Are you able to listen, make quick decisions in the moment, and throw yourself into any acting challenge?  Professional acting techniques focus on collaboration, listening, honesty, problem solving and empathy.  Self-discovery is inevitable as boundaries disappear in this positive, supportive environment. Proven techniques and professional terminology are used in class.
ACTING 2, 5:30-6:30 (1 hour, grades 8-12)
For avid, dedicated performers.  This class provides challenging scenarios using world-renown and cutting-edge techniques.  Greater emotional depth is required as essential skills like listening, connecting to a partner, and problem-solving in the moment are explored.  Additionally, there will be exercises designed to improve vocal dexterity and physical alignment, which are critical for the serious actor.  Each student will leave class with a picture/resume and audition materials tailored to his/her strengths.
ADULT ACTING, 7:00-8:00 (1 hour, adults only)
Would you like to be better at public speaking, more spontaneous, better at resolving conflicts?  Interested in professional acting training?  Just want to have fun?  Tell me your goal; we’ll make it happen.

Saturdays

ACT NOW!, 9:00-10:00 (1 hour, grades 1 & 2)
This class channels energy and thought into expression as we sing, dance and act.  Students will learn to collaborate, listen, empathize with others, and jump into imaginary worlds!  A great introduction to acting for both the naturally expressive and the inherently shy.  Requirements:  Curiosity and basic reading skills.
DRAMA CLUB, 10:00-11:00 (1 hour, grades 3-6)
We’ll do a little bit of everything---improv, comedy, video, dialects, scene study! There will be a strong emphasis on teamwork and collaboration.  Students create a whodunit mystery play, public service videos, and comedy skits; work on classics and contemporary pieces from stage and screen; and build an ensemble performance troupe.
GLEE CLUB, 11:00-12:00 (1 hour, grades 3-6)
Get ready to wow the crowd!  Learn the right way to sing while improving your acting and connecting to an audience.  Correct breathing, physical support, projection, range and expression are addressed in class.  Rehearsals incorporate singing, acting and dancing.  Students sing as a glee team with each person getting their moment to step out in the solo spotlight.
THE COMPLETE SINGER, 1:00-2:00 (1 hour, grades 7-12)
Solos, duets, and group numbers are explored in a wide variety of singing styles and genres.  Find your “true voice” while increasing power and expression.  Explore different styles, tones and resonances; smooth out vocal breaks; work on the connection between singer and audience; and create full performances, combining acting and emotion with singing techniques.  Now’s the time to take your singing to the next level!
THE COMPLETE ACTOR, 2:00-3:00 (1 hour, grades 7-12)
Be ready for any acting role!  Explore several different acting styles and genres used in stage, TV, and film.  Exercises will focus on character creation, dialects, social status and physical awareness. We will experiment with comedy, sketch writing, soap opera, classics, farce, stage combat and more.  Requiring expressiveness and concentration, this class will increase performers’ versatility.

Classes may be added if demand is high.
